 Symbol
Technologies has integrated the SE 900 lightweight laser bar code
scanner engine with the Palm, Inc. Palm OS to produce the SPT 1500,
1550,1700, 1800
and 1740. This allows PCS to design, program and integrate custom
software applications for end users who need the efficiencies of
bar code scanning with the small size and efficiencies of Palm OS
devices. The SPT 1500 is shown on the left. |
| For users who require a more rugged version of the SPT 1500, Symbol produces the SPT 1700 and SPT 1800. While slightly larger then the SPT 1500, the SPT 1700 / 1800 weights 10.3 oz. and is ruggedized to withstand drops of up to 4 ft. and to protect against the elements like rain and dust. The same applications that PCS designs for the SPT 1500 /1550 will run equally well on the SPT 1700 / 1800. |

Symbol also supplies SPT 1700 & 1800 devices - the SPT 1733 and SPT 1734 - that enables users to not only collect and manage data anytime, anywhere, but also access the Internet and corporate LANSs, send and receive e-mail, and communicate with remote host systems through wireless WAN access. Both units support the Palm OS. The SPT 1733 uses Novatel's CDPD (Cellular Digital Packet Data) modem - real-time data transmission at speeds up to 19.2 Kbps. The SPT 1734 is based on GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications). This offers both SMS (Short Message Service) and real-time secure, circuit-switched data transmission at speeds up to 14,4 Kbps. |

For users who require bar coding on a Palm OS device and also wireless capability, Symbol produces the SPT 1740. The SPT 1740 has a built -in link to the open architecture of the Spectrum24®. This wireless LAN enables up-to-the-minute information flow between the point of activity and your remote host system. As with the SPT 1700, applications designed by PCS for the SPT 1500 / 1550 will also run on the SPT 1740, minus the wireless communications. |
